The 32-year-old has returned to Southampton following the end of his loan spell with the Scottish champions, but Sutton thinks the keeper should be the club’s main priority this summer:
“If it takes all of the available transfer budget to get him, then so be it. We don’t know how the window is going to work and what the effects of Covid-19 are going to have on the finances at Parkhead or anywhere else in Scotland.”
“But if Celtic are to get one deal done, it has to be the permanent capture of Forster.”
Sutton is spot on with his assessment of Forster. While Scott Bain is an able deputy, the difference in having a top-quality goalkeeper in between the sticks has been there for all to see.
With the Saints struggling financially as well, with the English club up for sale, this is the perfect opportunity to bring in the former England international at a very low price.
It is not known how big Celtic’s transfer budget is, but, as Sutton says, they should try and push the boat out to get Forster in the coming weeks and months.
