Liverpool are still “in the running” to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer this summer, according to Sport journalist Lluis Miguelsanz.
The reporter claims that the French World Cup winner’s move to Real Madrid is not as cut and dry as the Spanish club are making out.
Mbappe has stated this week that he hasn’t made a final decision on his future, with his current deal with PSG set to expire at the end of June.
Miguelsanz says a renewal with the Ligue One club is still an option but Liverpool can’t be ruled out either as Mbappe would be attracted “more for [the] sports project than for economic conditions”.
Real, unsurprisingly, have made the biggest offer with a “multimillion-dollar” signing-on bonus on the table, but the Reds are in the mix with manager Jurgen Klopp said to be the one trying to “convince” the player.
It’s probably wise to take this story with a very large pinch of salt. Sport is a Barcelona-based paper and any story that paints Real in a poor light will be published, regardless of its accuracy, so keep that in mind.
