Liverpool have tabled an offer to former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay, according to reports in the Spanish media.

The Dutchman’s contract at Lyon expires in the summer and he will be available on a free transfer. It is believed that both the Reds and Juventus have made formal proposals to the 27-year-old, although the player is likely to turn down both offers.

Depay’s preference is believed to be Barcelona where he could link up with his former Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman. However, Lyon’s president Jean-Michel Aulas has said that the player has still not made up his mind.

Speaking about the forward’s future recently, Aulas seemed resigned to the player leaving for a bigger club, although he didn’t say that a move to Barca looked certain:

“I haven’t got a bad word to say about [Depay]. I will respect his decision. If he goes to a bigger club than Lyon, he’ll be right. If he stays, it will mean we’ve been a great adventure for him and we have won something.”

Depay would be an interesting addition to the squad if he were to make the switch to Liverpool. His ability to play right across the frontline would certainly make him a good fit for Jurgen Klopp’s style of play.
