Liverpool are willing to offer Joel Matip and Divock Origi in their bid to sign Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez, according to reports in Spain.

The Reds have been mentioned as a possible suitor for the Argentine international in recent days, joining the likes of Arsenal and Marseille in pursuing the 27-year-old.

However, there have been contrasting claims about Rodriguez’s asking price. Some have said that the player is available for only €30m (£26m) but it is now been suggested that Betis could demand as much as €50m (£43m).

If that turns out to be true, and Liverpool are indeed keen on signing the Argentine, then using players as part of the transfer would make a lot of sense.

Origi is up for sale so the Belgian’s inclusion in the deal is a likely scenario, but offering up Matip would be more of a surprise. The Cameroon international has had his fair share of injury problems, but he’s had a strong pre-season and he is expected to start the first league game against Norwich City next week.
