BT Sport pundit Michael Owen has warned Liverpool that they will be in for a tough match when they face Newcastle at St James’ Park this afternoon.
The Magpies are heading into the game in confident mood after some excellent recent results but Owen feels the Reds will still edge a tight contest:
“Liverpool probably could have had more goals against Villareal, but it was a comfortable 2-0 win nonetheless. The last two wins have been against sides who have defended deep and tried to frustrate them, Everton and Villareal, it’s a good sign that they still found a way to win. Liverpool have so much momentum right now. This won’t be easy, Newcastle are in great form themselves.”
Owen has predicted a 2-1 win, which seems like a decent prediction. Considering it is a lunchtime kickoff and Jurgen Klopp’s side only played on Wednesday, there is a danger that they could be caught cold.
Even if they do go 1-0 down early on, though, there is enough character in this Liverpool side to come back and secure the three points.
It will be interesting to see if Klopp does decide to freshen things up in terms of personnel due to the short turnaround in matches but you have to back them coming out on top no matter what team they put out, considering what is at stake.
