Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane’s future hinges on whether manager Zinedine Zidane leaves the Bernabeu at the end of the season, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
An announcement is expected to be made on Zidane after Real’s last league game of the campaign this weekend. The La Liga title is going down to the wire with the reigning champions currently two points behind Atletico.
Varane was linked with Liverpool in the local media last week, with Chelsea having also been mentioned in Spanish press reports, but, speaking on his Here We Go Podcast (via the Daily Express), Romano claims Manchester United are the team who have prioritised his signature.
The Red Devils are waiting to see what the Frenchman’s final decision will be. He will have one year remaining on his contract in the summer and Real will be forced to sell if he decides to leave.
Liverpool may still get involved but, from what Romano says, it does seem as though they are not frontrunners for the 28-year-old at the moment.
