Manchester City target David Alaba has confirmed that he will be leaving Bayern Munich on a free transfer at the end of the season.

It was widely known that the 28-year-old would be departing the Allianz Arena but, in a press conference today, the defender also revealed that he hadn’t decided on his next club:

“I have made the decision to leave Bayern Munich at the end of this season and try something new. It obviously wasn’t an easy decision – I’ve been here for 13 years and the club means a lot to me… I haven’t decided where I’m going next.”

Reports had indicated that Alaba was close to signing for Real Madrid but it is not believed that he has put pen to paper on a pre-contract agreement yet. That means there is still a chance that other teams could snap him up.

There were claims in Spain over the weekend that City were willing to pay the centre-back £370,000 a week to make the switch to the Etihad Stadium, in order to hijack his move to Madrid.

Whether that is, in fact, true, we shall have to wait and see, but Chelsea and Liverpool are also thought to be involved, so it will be interesting to see what decision Alaba makes.
