Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling will not be leaving the Etihad Stadium before the transfer window closes this evening, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist reports that the England international was available for transfer earlier in the summer but the Citizens are now likely to extend the player’s contract:
“Raheem Sterling is staying, they wanted to sell Sterling to find a solution for him and to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, but they want to discuss his contract in the coming weeks.”
Romano was slightly less confident about Bernardo Silva’s future. The Portuguese international wants to move clubs but the likes of Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have not come forward with satisfactory offers. While Romano doesn’t rule out a departure, no deal appears to be close:
“Let’s see if the right bid arrives in the coming hours, if not he will stay”
Both players have actually been on Arsenal’s radar but the Gunners are said to be focusing their efforts on snapping up a right-back ahead of the transfer deadline. There was also some discussion about the pair being used in a potential bid for Harry Kane, before the Spurs striker declared he would be staying at the London club.
At the time of writing, it seems very likely that Sterling and Silva will remain at City.
