Ex-Manchester City winger Leroy Sane has listed his former club as one of four teams who are currently among the best in Europe.
The German international was sold to Bayern Munich for €60m in July last year after requesting to leave but, he claims that, in addition to his current side, three English clubs are right up there in terms of their strength:
“At the moment, together with Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea, I see us (Bayern Munich) as the strongest in Europe. However, the form can change quickly towards the end of the season.”
Not many will disagree with Sane’s remarks, but we will only find out for certain who the best team is in the latter rounds of the Champions League.
City have to get past Sporting Lisbon in their last 16 tie first, with the first leg scheduled to take place in Portugal on February 15th. Bayern, meanwhile, will take on Red Bull Salzburg a day later.
With all due respect to their opponents, both clubs will be expecting to make it through and seal their places in the quarter-finals of the competition.
