Manchester City are weighing up a possible bid for Atalanta wingback Robin Gosens, according to reports in Italy.
The left-back slot is arguably the Citizens’ weakest position, and Gosens would certainly fit the bill as an attacking fullback. However, fans on Twitter are not sure whether the German international is the right fit:
I don’t know about this.

I’ll take him

He’s not really a LB, more of a LM. Would be a good 2nd option on the wing, but we don’t really need him

He swaps to lb some times he used to play lb when he first moved he would be best at lm tho … I would think pep would play a 5 back moving to 4 back maybe with cancelo in midfield ??

Less than 20m and we’re good

Can play anywhere from LB, LM, LW to up front. Good header of the ball. Maybe pep fancies a 352

Gosens certainly provides quality in the final third, having scored nine goals already this season, but there are big question marks over whether he could cope in a back four.
At Atalanta, the 26-year-old has almost exclusively played in a 3-5-2 over the past couple of seasons and he hasn’t been asked to do much defending in Gian Piero Gasperini’s very attacking system.
Considering Oleksandr Zinchenko has come in and done an excellent job since the New Year, strengthening at left-back has also become a less pressing concern, and it remains to be seen if City will firm up their interest in Gosens.
