Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain has not been in contact with Sergio Aguero about extending the striker’s contract, according to reports in Spain.
The 32-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of the season and, as things stand, the forward will be able to speak to foreign clubs in the New Year about a free transfer at the end of the season.
Aguero is a legendary figure at the Etihad Stadium but while a number of fans on Twitter would be angry to see the club let the Argentine leave, there are others who are accepting that it may be the right time for him to go:
They will let him leave. City must be looking at it from a wage bill point of view. By letting off Silva, Otamendi, Fernandinho & Aguero, they’ll have a great wage structure that will allow Messi to take a pay cut so he can play for 2 seasons as they shop for a younger striker.

This is not a big deal, he will sign a new deal, I’m confident. Kün knows how much he is adored here and Txiki knows it will take one phone- call and he will say yes?

It has been said that Aguero will be given the choice as to when he wants to leave City. He has been afforded the right considering what he has done for the club. However, it does appear that it is the board who are dragging their heels over an extension at the moment. Perhaps there are some concerns over his injury record but it is still surprising to see no new deal being offered to the player.
