Ex-Manchester United captain Gary Neville believes his former club must find a better balance between defence and attack if they are to improve as a team.

The Sky Sports pundit feels United have too many attacking players not doing their jobs and he cites Chelsea as an example for how to develop a side who are both solid at the back and strong going forward.:

“It’s obviously more exciting to see Pogba, Fernandes, Ronaldo, Cavani, Greenwood, Cavani, Martial, Rashford all play, but can you really create a brilliant team when you’ve got all those attacking players, who haven’t got the other side of the game and the balance. Chelsea have a great balance, Man Utd at this moment in time don’t quite have that same balance.”

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has an abundance of riches when it comes to forwards and attacking midfielders, as Neville points out, and it is up to the Norwegian to ensure that they can all work as a unit.

That may involve upsetting a few of them by naming one or two on the bench, and Solskjaer will have to use his man-management skills to ensure he keeps everyone on side.

As we saw with the return of Fred and Scott McTominay against West Ham, Solskjaer seems intent on finding the right balance and we shall see if he does find a happy medium in the coming weeks.
