Aged just 22, Antony’s best years are still ahead of him. However, he contributed directly to 22 goals in 33 games during the 2021/22 season. That’s an excellent record, with the Brazilian proving that not only can he score goals, he can also create chances too.
I’m always somewhat doubtful when it comes to signing players from Holland. United have a mixed record, from the greats like Ruud van Nistelrooy and Park Ji-Sung, to struggling footballers like Memphis Depay and Donny van de Beek.
Antony would no doubt need time to settle into life here in Manchester if the move does happen, though at this point, I’m hoping the Reds take the risk and bring in the attacker. Simply put, we need bodies in that area of the field and at the very least, it should give Rashford a kick up the backside.
Winger Antony falls into that bracket. The Brazilian enjoyed a stellar season under Ten Hag in the Eredivisie last term and it always felt like an inevitable transfer rumour.
With United looking short out wide, particularly with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial struggling, it’s a good bet the club invest in that area.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has given us an important update in regards to United’s pursuit of the Brazilian.
He’s claimed that United’s interest in the attacker is ‘genuine’, with Ten Hag knowing the player ‘so well’ from their time together over in the Netherlands.
