Celtic are weighing up a potential move for ex Everton and Crystal Palace midfielder James McCarthy, according to the Sun journalist Alan Nixon.
The Republic of Ireland international is available on a free transfer and Nixon claims that the player’s name is currently under discussion:

Supporters on Twitter are very much in favour of bringing McCarthy in, with many believing that the Scottish club need to strengthen their options in the middle of the park:
It’s a no brainer. Get him signed. What’s to contemplate?

I’d be happy with that. We’re lacking in that position and he’s less risk than signing another prospect. Be option to have that’s for sure.

It is fair to say that McCarthy didn’t pull up any trees when playing for Palace last season. The 30-year-old made 17 appearances in all competitions without scoring a goal or contributing any assists.
If he does move to Celtic Park, it will be hoped that a long run in the first team will help the Irishman rediscover his best form. With talisman Scott Brown having departed the club, manager Ange Postecogolou desperately needs someone who can control the game in midfield, and McCarthy could well be that man.
