Chelsea and Manchester United are the two teams that are “best placed” to compete with Real Madrid for Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, according to Marca.
Reports in Spain yesterday claimed that Real were stepping up their attempts to sign the France international but Marca believe they will face fierce competition from the two Premier League clubs.
Chelsea, in particular, have reportedly done a lot of groundwork in order to persuade Tchouameni into making the move to Stamford Bridge, but the player’s asking price is likely to be a major issue.
A few months ago, Tchouameni’s reported valuation was around the €40m (£33m) to €50m (£42m) mark, but Marca now claim that Monaco will now ask for around double that, with €80m (£66.6m) to €100m (£83m) being needed to secure the player’s signature.
Whether that would force the Blues into reconsidering a bid for West Ham’s Declan Rice, who would probably cost a similar amount, we shall have to wait and see.
