Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson is expecting Chelsea to come out comfortable winners when they face Everton this evening.
The Toffees have been on a terrible run over the last couple of months and Merson expects Thomas Tuchel’s side to make easy work of their opponents:
“If you look at Everton’s Premier League record in recent weeks, it’s been dismal. They’ve only got five points from a possible 30 and are bottom of the table if you only consider results from October. Chelsea, on the other hand, weren’t great against Leeds, but they still scored three goals and won the game.”
Merson has gone with a 3-0 victory to the Blues, which seems like a sensible prediction, considering the form of the two clubs heading into the fixture.
As Merson points out, Everton have been very poor recently and shorn of their attacking threat without Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, they should be there for the taking.
However, Chelsea have made hard work of so-called lesser opponents at Stamford Bridge in recent games, with Burnley grabbing a point last month, while a last-minute penalty was needed to grab a win over Leeds last time out.
Tuchel will want to see a better performance from his team tonight, and he’ll expect to secure the three points without any real problems.
