Chelsea will not “negotiate with Premier League clubs” if they do decide to offload Romelu Lukaku, according to La Repubblica.
The Italian publication believes that the Belgian international could end up on the transfer market if he doesn’t apologise for the comments he made in an interview last month.
Both Manchester City and Tottenham have been suggested as possible destinations for Lukaku but the Blues will not consider strengthening a team in the same division.
It is believed that manager Thomas Tuchel has the backing of his players for leaving Lukaku out of the matchday squad for the Liverpool game yesterday.
Lukaku’s interview in the Italian media caused controversy after he revealed he was unhappy at Stamford Bridge. He had not told anyone else at the club, and his teammates were blindsided, just like his manager, when his comments were made public.
With no team on the continent likely to be able to afford his transfer fee or wages, it seems like the 28-year-old will have no choice but to make an unreserved apology.
