Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher is backing his former club to lift their seventh European Cup next season.
The Reds were knocked out at the quarter-final stages of this year’s competition by Real Madrid, and only qualified for the next addition after just finishing in the top four on the final day.
However, after watching Chelsea beat Manchester City in Saturday’s final, Carragher says he believes Jurgen Klopp’s side will be competing for Europe’s top prize again next May:
“I fancy Liverpool next year [to win the Champions League]. I have that feeling.”
It’s a bold prediction from Carragher considering Liverpool’s rather difficult season. Their injury record will need to improve hugely, while Virgil van Dijk will have to be back to his very best.
Manchester City and Bayern Munich are the bookies’ favourites for next season but the fact that the Reds have been there and done it before means it would be very hard to write them off from going all the way again.
