Paul Merson has backed West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen to make a move to Liverpool after his excellent performances for the Hammers last season.
The 25-year-old was rewarded for his fine form with his first England cap in the 1-0 defeat to Hungary last week and, while he doesn’t believe the forward has the ability to be a regular starter for the Reds, Merson thinks he could be a very good squad option:
“He’s been linked with a move to Liverpool and at the moment, I think he’d be a great squad player for them. He won’t go in there and take someone’s spot immediately, but Liverpool play a lot of games and their brand of football is intense, so he’ll have plenty of game time under his belt.”
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has expressed his admiration for Bowen in the past, but the Merseyside club are not the only team interested in the player, with the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle having been also mentioned as potential suitors.
It is believed that West Ham are preparing to hand Bowen a new contract and, if he does sign on the dotted line, it is very unlikely that the winger will be on the move in the near future.
