Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus “will stay” at the Etihad even if Erling Haaland does join the Premier League champions, according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Sky Italy reporter claims that the Brazilian international is likely to remain an important player for manager Pep Guardiola:

“I can’t imagine Guardiola letting him go even if Haaland comes – which will happen as a deal is very close. They still need another striker, a different one. Haaland is a different type of player. He will stay because it is difficult to find a player like him.”

“Manchester City does not rely on a sale to make money. You have the option to buy anyone you want. It will depend on whether Gabriel Jesus is willing to play less once Haaland is there. It will depend on his attitude if he knows an incredible striker is coming.”

Reports in the UK have a very different view on the situation. Jesus’s current deal with City expires in just over a year’s time and there are no signs he will put pen to paper on a new contract.

Arsenal are said to be lining up a £35m offer for the 25-year-old, after having held talks with the player’s agent, and the Citizens may be tempted to sell, considering he could leave on a free in 2023.

However, Jesus is currently in excellent form, having scored seven goals in his last six matches, and if he continues in that vein, you would have to think that City will look to offer him an extension.
