West Ham are not expected to go back in for West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, according to the Evening Standard‘s Jack Rosser.
The Hammers had a £6m bid rejected for the England international earlier this month, and the Baggies value the player closer to £12m. Rosser says David Moyes’ side will not pay top dollar in order to bring in a keeper this summer:
“Sam Johnstone is someone they like but I think they don’t want to pay over the odds for him. With Fabianski still being able to be the number one, it’s not a priority.”
Johnstone has less than a year left on his contract at the Hawthorns so there is still a chance that West Ham could revisit the situation later in the transfer window if West Brom lower their demands.
Whether that will happen, though, it is debatable. Arsenal have also been linked with the 28-year-old and the Gunners could make a move for the former Manchester United academy graduate if they can’t do a deal for Sheffield United’s Aaron Ramsdale.
The Irons may still be considering other targets as well. Paris Saint_Germain’s Alphonse Areola is an option on loan, while Roma’s Robin Olsen is another alternative.
