Benfica striker Darwin Nunez remains an active target for West Ham, according to The Guardian reporter Jacob Steinberg.
The journalist claims that, while the Uruguayan may now prefer a move to an “elite European club”, the Hammers “have not given up” their pursuit of the forward:

West Ham tried to sign Nunez during the January transfer window, but they were unable to agree a fee with Benfica. His reputation has grown even further since then, with reports suggesting that he may not fetch between €70m (£60m) and €80m (£68m).
With the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Atletico Madrid also reportedly circling Nunez, it does seem like an increasingly unrealistic target for the Irons.
Steinberg claims that Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins is emerging as a serious alternative, with the David Moyes’ side also interested in the likes of Chelsea’s Armando Broja and Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah. We shall see which striker ends up moving to the London Stadium.
