Chelsea are expected to conclude their summer transfer business by signing a goalkeeper, according to the Evening Standard. It was thought that the Blues were also intent on making a move for West Ham’s Declan Rice but it appears the decision has been made to end their attempts to sign the England international before the transfer window shuts.
It is not a surprising development considering Chelsea have spent over £200m on new signings and, with the Hammers expected to demand around £75m for Rice, it seems their manager Frank Lampard is resigned to the fact that the midfielder will be staying at the London Stadium.
One note of caution, though, that stance could change were the Blues to sell some players to raise funds. It is thought that they are open to selling the likes of Jorginho, Ross Barkley and Emerson Palmieri and, were they to find buyers for these players, there is a possibility that they may still opt to table a bid for Rice.
