West Ham have opened talks with Michail Antonio about extending his contract at the London Stadium, according to reports in the English media.
The 30-year-old’s current deal expires next summer and the Hammers are believed to be prepared to make him one of the highest earners at the club.
If that is true, Antonio could be set to earn over £100,000 a week, and supporters on Twitter are surprised that the club are looking to hand the forward such a lucrative deal:
He’s 30……no re-sale value….. So that’s 15 million pounds for 3 years, then he’s gone……. He’s had one goodish month….. We are embarrassing.

Typical knee jerk from the club. Let’s hope it’s not another Reid situation

Its because we know we are not signing anyone… so need to try and keep a few players…

Good player yes, saved us from relegation with his goals yes. But has too many injuries to justify that wage.

Antonio was the key reason why the Irons stayed up last season, and he deserves all the plaudits for his excellent displays since the restart.
However, giving someone such a sizeable wage increase is questionable considering his age and injury record. It is also believed that West Ham have the option to extend his current deal by a further two years, which means that there is really no need to offer him improved terms.
