“Struggled With The Pace” Barry Ferguson Raises Concerns About Rangers January Signing

Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson says Amad Diallo has “struggled” to cope with the speed of the Scottish Premiership following a difficult start to his loan spell at Ibrox.

The 19-year-old joined from Manchester United last month, and while he got off to a flying start with a goal minutes into his debut against Ross County, things have been tougher going since then. Ferguson believes the Ivorian is talented but must learn to adapt quickly:

“In terms of Diallo, I just think he struggled with the pace of the game, You can see the boy has got ability, there is no doubt about it, but you need to get up to speed quickly when you go to a club like Rangers.”

It’s a difficult situation. Manager Giovanni van Bronckorst really needed Diallo to hit the ground running, and while he did make a good first impression, he hasn’t kicked on.

With so many important matches coming up, van Bronkhorst can’t really afford the 19-year-old time on the pitch if he isn’t delivering performances. It will be hoped that he begins to acclimatise to the league soon or he may face a lengthy period out of the side.
