Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has vowed not to change the way the Hoops scout and target prospective new signings, even if the club do receive a sizeable amount of Champions League prize money.

Reaching the group stages of Europe’s top competition will net Celtic at least £40m, with some of that likely to be reinvested back into the playing squad, but Postecoglou says it won’t affect how he recruits:

“I’d assume that it makes us a more attractive proposition but it won’t change the strategy in terms of the kind of players. I think that we’ve done really well in the transfer market this year, following a certain formula in the type of player that we bring in. That’s not going to change, we’re not going to move to a different sort of price range and bracket just because we have some extra income, it is still about bringing in the right players.”

While the Hoops won’t be splashing cash left, right and centre, it does give them flexibility in the transfer market, which is not a luxury they have had in recent years.

It will allow Postecoglou to strengthen parts of the squad he might otherwise not been able to, while adding depth to ensure they can compete on all fronts. As we have seen with some of the signings that the Australian has made in his first year in charge, though, you don’t always have to spend big in order to bring in quality additions, and fans will be happy that he won’t be veering too far from his current approach.
