Chelsea are expected to challenge Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain in the battle to sign Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, according to ESPN journalist Julien Laurens.
The French reporter claims that the Blues’ attempts to sign the 18-year-old has been instigated by Petr Cech, who has kept an eye on the player’s progress at his former club:
“We’re probably looking at PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester United. There has been no offer from these clubs, but they have all been talking to [Camavinga’s agent] Jonathan Barnett . Petr Cech is a huge fan, and of course, he came from Rennes and still has a lot of friends there.”
Reports indicate that Rennes will demand around €40m (£34m) for Camavinga, which is believed to be a discounted price, with the France international having less than a year remaining on his contract. Fans on Twitter are very much split on whether signing the teenager is a good idea:

Manager Thomas Tuchel is very keen on strengthening his midfield, and with Billy Gilmour having sealed his loan move to Norwich City, the need for reinforcements has increased. Whether Camavinga would be the right fit for the Blues’ boss style of play though, it is up for debate, but there is no doubt that the midfielder is a very promising young player.
