Chelsea have been “offered” Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, according to Goal journalist Nizaar Kinsella.
The website’s Blues correspondent claims that the Dutchman will be available next summer as Juve need to get the defender off the wage bill.
De Ligt moved to Serie A from Ajax for £67.5m in 2019 but it seems he will be allowed to move teams after just three years in Italy.
Kinsella says de Ligt is just one of three centre-halves being considered by Chelsea, along with Leicester’s Wesley Fofana and Sevilla’s Jules Kounde.
Thomas Tuchel’s side may actually need more than one reinforcement at the back if the London club cannot resolve the contract situations of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta and Thiago Silva.
Rudiger and Christensen are the likeliest to leave but there are also serious doubts over Azpilicueta, with recent reports suggesting the Blues have made little effort in their attempts to keep the Spaniard.
