Chelsea failed to convert their dominance into goals as they dropped two points against Manchester United last night.
Marcos Alonso came into the side for the injured Ben Chilwell and his wastefulness in the final third of the pitch typified the Blues’ evening in front of goal.
Needless to say that supporters on Twitter did not hold back in their criticism of the Spanish international following the game:
Can’t defend, can’t run, can’t cross…how he became a footballer I find baffling.

Admittedly, Alonso last played a full 90 minutes in a 1-0 win over Malmo at the start of the month, so his rustiness can be forgiven to some extent but, it doesn’t excuse his poor performance entirely.
His deliveries into the box were wayward, both from open play and set pieces, and his lack of pace meant he was unable to exploit the space afforded to him by opponents who were happy to sit deep.
With Chilwell set to be out for at least six weeks, it will be hoped that Alonso can blow off some cobwebs and get back to the level he showed at the start of the season.
