Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel would have been delighted by the character his team showed under difficult circumstances in the 3-1 win over Norwich on Thursday night.
Games are coming thick and fast so players can’t afford to be distracted by off-the-pitch matters. It will be hoped that their minds will be firmly on the job when they play Newcastle at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.
Edouard Mendy will start in goal and it will be hoped that captain Cesar Azpilicueta has recovered from a stomach bug in time to start as the right wingback. Saul Niguez is expected to continue to deputise for Marcos Alonso on the left-hand side.
Antonio Rudiger was rested at Carrow Road so the German could come in for Andreas Christensen, making up a back three alongside Thiago Silva and Trevoh Chalobah.
Jorginho is not in great form so he may make way for the returning N’Golo Kante, with Mateo Kovacic partnering the Frenchman in the middle of the park.
Up front, Kai Havertz’s excellent form will mean that he will continue to keep out Romelu Lukaku. Timo Werner’s disappointing performance versus Norwich could see Hakim Ziyech get another chance, with Mason Mount lining up on the other wing.
