Rangers striker Rory Wilson is “expected” to join Aston Villa in “the coming weeks” according to The Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell.
The reporter, who is usually pretty reliable when it comes to the Light Blues, claims that Steven Gerrard’s side have won the race for the teenager’s signature.
Wilson scored a hugely impressive 49 goals in youth football last season, but he decided against signing on to professional terms with the Gers so he could entertain offers from south of the border.
In addition to Villa, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United had also been credited with an interest in the 16-year-old but it appears that the influence of former manager Gerrard has swung things in the Midlands club’s favour.
Scotland and Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has warned Wilson that he may end up regretting his move away from Ibrox but the club are said to be moving swiftly to recruit another young forward in Partick Thistle’s Cameron Cooper.
