Rangers legend Ally McCoist has backed Kemar Roofe to replace Alfredo Morelos in starting line up for this afternoon’s game against Livingston.

The Englishman will be flying after scoring a stunning goal from the halfway line against Standard Liege on Thursday while, in contrast, Morelos has struggled to make an impact in recent games. McCoist says he would drop the Colombian for today’s match:

“Still nothing like the player he has been, nothing like it. I would start Roofe at the weekend, over Morelos.”

Morelos has not looked his normal self recently. Five goals in 13 games doesn’t sound like a bad return, but he has now scored just once in the league since the beginning of August.

Undoubtedly, transfer speculation has affected his form. His prospective move to Lille never materialised before the transfer window closed earlier this month.

The 24-year-old may be able to recover his touch in front of goal over the coming weeks and months but, with the likes of Roofe available to manager Steven Gerrard, he can afford to take the Colombian international out of the firing line.
