Sky Sports pundit Davie Provan is backing Rangers midfielder Steven Davis to be named Player of the Year.

The Northern Ireland international has been integral to the Light Blues clinching their first league title in ten years, and Provan believes the 36-year-old is the frontrunner for the accolade:

“Proper players have the ability to make a difficult game look easy and Davis has always done that. If there’s a better candidate for Player of the Year, I haven’t seen him.”

Davis has not scored in the Premiership this season, and he has provided just one assist in 29 league appearances, but his influence on the team is not captured in the numbers.

The midfielder dictates play from the middle of the park and he is the player that manager Steven Gerrard relies upon to take the game by the scruff of the neck and push the team to victory.

Davis’s current deal at Ibrox expires at the end of the season but, after his exploits this campaign, there is no doubt that he fully deserves to have his contract extended for another year.
