Rangers will be joined by Nottingham Forest in the race to secure Hearts defender John Souttar’s signature, according to reports in the UK.

Forest are believed to be interested in Souttar as they fear losing Joe Worrall (a former Gers loanee himself), with bids from English Premier League sides expected in the January transfer window.

Souttar will also be in demand next month. The Scottish international’s contract at Tynecastle expires at the end of the season and Hearts are keen to offload him in order to prevent the player from leaving for nothing.

The Gers’ Old firm rivals Celtic, as well as nine other English Championship teams, including Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool, Luton, Middlesbrough, Millwall, QPR, Preston and Stoke are also believed to be keen on the centre-back.

With it is also being reported that Souttar prefers a move south of the border, Rangers have their work cut if they are to persuade the 25-year-old into moving to Ibrox.
