Rangers’ hierarchy have agreed to enter talks with Ryan Kent over a new contract, according to reports in the UK.
The former Liverpool player (who reportedly has a £20m release clause) has just fifteen months remaining on his current deal at Ibrox.
There are worries over whether Kent will sign an extension, and that could lead to the Scottish champions weighing up the possibility of selling the 25-year-old this summer.
It’s unlikely that any team would be prepared to meet his buyout fee at the moment. Both the length of his contract and his form mean the Gers may have to settle for a knockdown price.
Kent has been performing particularly well in Europe this campaign but his two goals in 22 league appearances isn’t particularly impressive.
Even so, the club are keen to keep him and, while concerns remain about his willingness to commit his long-term future to Rangers, there is still hope that he will sign on the dotted line in the coming months.
