Arsenal are interested in Sporting Cristal right-back Jhilmar Lora, according to Football.London‘s Gunners correspondent Chris Wheatley.
The journalist, who is usually very reliable, claims that the London club are “monitoring” the defender’s situation, as they consider moves for a number of players in South America.
Lora has six senior caps for Peru but he hasn’t played outside of his own country and, with just 42 senior appearances to his name, it would certainly be a gamble to go after him.
One of the key reasons that the Gunners are looking at options in South America is due to changes to Visa rules brought in after Brexit.
There used to be restrictions on signing players from outside the EU, but that is no longer the case, while the UK Government have also made it easier for players, like Lora, who has been capped for the national team, to move to the Premier League. With South American clubs also not demanding sizeable sums for their players, English top-flight teams like Arsenal are exploiting the situation.
