Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit is hoping the Gunners’ ability to turn up and perform against the “top teams” this season will aid them in their quest to finish fourth.
Mikel Arteta’s side face four of the top seven during the run-in and Petit believes that, if they can put in performances in these games, it will strengthen their chances of securing Champions League qualification:
“I still believe Arsenal can reach the top four come the end of the season They have the chance to play Chelsea, Manchester United, West Ham and Tottenham before the end. Arsenal’s best games this season have come against the top teams in the Premier League, so they can do it!”
Arsenal have definitely impressed at times during their matches against Manchester City and Liverpool this campaign but, it should be pointed out, that they haven’t picked up a point against any of the top three clubs.
In terms of the teams they are facing over the next month or so, they do have a decent record (with the exception of Chelsea). They have beaten Spurs and West Ham already, while they were narrowly beaten at Old Trafford.
Coming off the back of very disappointing displays versus Crystal Palace and Brighton, though, the Gunners will have to improve quickly if they are going to replicate some of those results.
