Arsenal will consider making a loan bid for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, according to multiple reports in the English media.

It is believed an attempt could be made for the France international nearer the end of the transfer window if the Gunners can’t secure one of their two main targets, James Maddison or Martin Odegaard.

Supporters on Twitter are not sure what to make of these latest rumours, with many questioning whether Lyon would even be open to loaning out one of their best players:

It does very much feel like a scattergun approach from Edu and the club’s recruitment staff at the moment. Both Maddison and Odegaard are expected to cost in excess of £50m and with Aouar available for half the price, why not simply sign the Frenchman permanently if the limited transfer budget is stopping them from signing their primary targets?

There could be an element of ‘try before you buy’ when it comes to Aouar, as it is believed there are those in the Arsenal hierarchy who have reservations about the player. Even so, it would be very surprising if Lyon were willing to let him leave on loan.
