Brentford head coach Thomas Frank has admitted he was flattered to be linked with the Arsenal job but he was never formally contacted by the Gunners.
The Dane was mentioned as a possible candidate to replace Mikel Arteta back in September after Arsenal’s poor start to the season, but Frank says he is very happy at Brentford:
“So, I understand that well, but… Arsenal and [Manchester] United. Wasn’t that how it was? I think I read that at some point. It’s very nice, but one thing is rumours, and the other is if they really wanted to contact me. Then we have to take it from there I have a contract until 2023. I’m insanely happy at Brentford. It’s [a] club that means a lot to me and where I have had great times.”
“I enjoy working with our director of football, owners, players, staff and fans. It’s the club who must come to me, but now we must see what the future brings. I know we have a mutual respect and a good relationship with each other on that.”
After five wins in his last seven matches, Areta’s position at the Emirates is certainly no longer under threat, although there is still a lot of work to do to get the Gunners back competing at the top of the table.
With regards to Frank, the 47-year-old has had an outstanding start to his first campaign managing in the Premier League, having already beaten Arsenal and drawn at home with Liverpool. The Bees face Chelsea this weekend and his reputation as a manager could grow even further if he manages to get a result against the European champions.
