Arsenal are very interested in signing Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde, according to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein.
A right-sided centre-half is a major priority for the summer transfer window, along with an attacking midfielder, and Kounde has been identified as their main target.
There is, though, some major doubts over the Frenchman’s interest in moving to the Emirates. Sevilla have qualified for next season’s Champions League, while the Gunners don’t have any European football whatsoever.
Kounde’s asking price is also believed to be a stumbling block with Sevilla thought to be holding out for a fee in the region of £50m.
The 22-year-old has also been linked with a number of other clubs in recent months, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, which could complicate things further.
Considering Arsenal will have William Saliba returning from his loan spell at Nice this summer, it is a surprise that manager Mikel Arteta is so keen on signing another centre-back, but we shall see if they make a formal approach for Kounde or another defender.
