Rangers captain James Tavernier scored his 50th goal in a Light Blues shirt during the 4-0 win over Willem II on Thursday evening.
After having some trouble from the spot last season, the 28-year-old is now back on penalty duty, and he duly dispatched the ball past goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter to open the scoring on the night.
Tavernier has been criticised for his performances on and off during his five years at Ibrox but, after reaching a notable milestone for the Gers, supporters on Twitter have been quick to praise the right-back for his contributions:
Real unsung hero Tav, never hides no matter how bad it gets & has improved season after season. I’m pretty sure he would have had offers to leave over these years too

Fans at weekend wanting him dropped, lose captaincy etc. Nuts. Great player for us. Understated

So glad he is back on the penalties. Easily the best penalty kick taker at the club but lost confidence after missing a couple having gone years without missing at all!

There has been justifiable criticism of his defending over the years, but that can’t be levelled at him this season considering the Bears have only conceded two goals in ten matches.
Along with his 50 goals for Rangers, Tavernier has also racked up an extremely impressive 78 assists in his 253 appearances, which is quite astonishing considering he plays at fullback.
