Aston Villa are expected to beat the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool to the signature of Rangers striker Rory Wilson, according to reports in the Scottish media.

It was reported last week that a number of the English Premier League teams, that also included Leeds and Newcastle, were hopeful of tempting the 16-year-old to leave Auchenhowie.

Wilson had been offered a professional contract by the Gers but it appears that the temptation of moving south of the border has proven to be too strong for the youngster.

Villa boss Steven Gerrard would have seen the Scotland Under 17 international come through the ranks, so it is not a surprise that the Midlands club got involved in the battle for the player.

However, considering the competition, it still raises an eyebrow that Wilson has decided to leave Ibrox for Villa Park. Whether he has been promised a pathway to the first team, as well as more money, it is not known. The Bears will receive around £300,000 in compensation if the move is finalised.
