The report suggests that Pep Guardiola’s side are growing increasingly sceptical of being able to consolidate a deal for Harry Kane, and could instead look to Aubameyang to solve their goalscoring problems.

Spurs’ insistence that the England captain is not for sale has done little to deter City’s interest all summer, but with a week of the window remaining, it appears that they may finally have given up and decided to look elsewhere.

It had previously been reported that the former Borussia Dortmund man was happy at Arsenal and wished to consolidate his legacy as a club legend before leaving.

However, new rumours circulating suggest that he could be open to the prospect of leaving, after registering his worst goalscoring season in a decade last term with just 15.

Aubameyang made his first appearance of the season as a second-half substitute against Chelsea on Sunday, while Kane also featured for the first time since the Euros in Spurs’ 1-0 victory over Wolves.

The Cameroon international is currently banned until the New Year for a doping violation, although an appeal may reduce the length of his suspension.

Onana’s ban, combined with the fact that he has only twelve months left on his contract, mean he could be available for only £7m this summer. Supporters on Twitter are very much split on whether the Gunners should be pursuing the 25-year-old:

If the interest in Onana is genuine, it would suggest that Bernd Leno is destined to leave the Emirates in the coming weeks and months. The German has publicly stated that he wants to stay but, with two years remaining on his current deal, it may be the case that the London club have decided to cash in.

Whether Onana would be an upgrade on Leno, it is open for debate, but his availability for such a low transfer fee appears to have tempted Arsenal into making a move for him.
